It's hard to believe that August is over and we've finished our first month of school! Thanks to everyone for making it successful!

The SVCS Elementary Student Handbook states that if changes are needed during the school day, the parent/guardian must notify the office by 1:30 PM. Please call or email changes for the end of the day to madams@svcs.k12.in.us by 1:30 PM!

After 1:30, we cannot guarantee that a student will receive any changes.

PLEASE LIMIT CHANGES TO EMERGENCIES ONLY! Frequent changes are confusing for students and staff, and can lead to mistakes.

When sending money to school to pay for something, please put it in an envelope or Ziploc bag with your child's name on it and include what you're paying for.

Starting this month, menus and newsletters will only be sent through ParentSquare and will be available online. We will no longer send home printed copies.

We have 60 students signed up for the Elementary Art Club sponsored by Mrs. Goins at SVHS.  

The first club day is Thursday, September 4th. On Art Club day, students will stay after school with Mrs. Kesler until the transfer bus arrives to pick them up, which will be around 2:50.  

Students WILL be sent on the bus to Art Club at SV High School unless we hear from a parent or guardian of a change. If you DO NOT want your child to go to Art Club, you must call by 1:00 to make the change. We will do our best to assure that all students stay for Art Club; however, if your child happens to get on the bus to go home, we will not be able to have the bus turn around to bring them back. They will miss Art Club unless you can take them to SVHS.

Pickup will be at 5:00 at the SVHS cafeteria.

College Go Week is September 22nd-26th. Below are the dress up days for the week.

We have a scheduled eLearning day on Wednesday, October 1 for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Students will work from home on their iPads that day so that teachers can meet with parents at school. More information will be sent out soon.

Congratulations to the recipients of the August Viking Vibe awards: Karsyn Naylor (K), Bradley Oellig (1st), Max Evans (2nd), Keagan Uselman (3rd), and Ivy Raymond (4th). These students were honored for being respectful.

Grandparents' Day is celebrated in September. At Van Duyn, we're celebrating on Friday, Sept. 12th, with coffee and crafts for up to four grandparents. Forms were sent home on Sept. 2nd and are due Mon., Sept. 8th.

Forms were sent home on Sept. 2nd for Snack Days. Seven Fridays this year, students will be able to pick two healthy snacks and a bottle of water. The cost is $24 for the whole year. Forms and payment are due Sept. 12th.

School pictures will be taken on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Every child in the school will be photographed that day for the yearbook. Order forms will come home near the beginning of October. If your student is absent, a retake day will be held in November.

Mrs. Foxworthy is asking students to keep their books in their backpacks at home or their desks at school when they are not reading them. Doing this ensures students will always have the books to turn in on Library Day. It also keeps them safe from pets and from getting lost. Students have a library class on either Wednesday or Friday of each week. Ask to see your child's books and enjoy reading with them.

Just a reminder, an after-school detention will be assigned after every 5 tardies.

Attendance letters will be sent when a student accumulates 5, 8, and 10 absences. These letters will be sent regardless of whether they are excused or unexcused absences.

Please have your child at school and on time every day. If your child will be absent, please call the school and leave a voicemail on the attendance line by 9:00 AM.

As always, if your child has a fever of 100 or greater, has been vomiting or has diarrhea, he or she must NOT have any of these symptoms for 24 hours or more before returning to school.
