We have a scheduled two-hour delay for teacher PD on Wednesday, January 28.

Your student's bus will arrive two hours later than normal. Our doors will open at 9:30.

We are extending a warm Van Duyn Viking welcome to our new nighttime custodian, Mr. Jim. He transferred to Van Duyn from South Vermillion High School. We are glad to have Mr. Jim on our team!

Monday, January 19, 2026, is the 100th day of school for the 2025-2026 school year. Happy 100 days of school!

Congratulations to the following students for earning the Viking Vibes character award for December (creativity):  Claire Cochran (Kindergarten), Leland Gossett (1st grade),

Lincoln Abney (2nd grade), Madison Perry (3rd grade), and Calvin Phillips (4th grade).

Students can pay $1 to wear pajamas and bring a stuffed animal to school. Proceeds will go to KidKare.

As always, your student must be completely free of any vomiting, diarrhea, OR fever of 100 or greater for at least 24 hours before returning to school.

Please have a plan for your child if you cannot be home to get them off the bus after school. Give them a spare key, hide a key somewhere outside your home, or make arrangements with a neighbor. Please discuss with your child what they should do if they arrive home on the bus and you're not there.

Winter is here. There is likely to be more inclement weather approaching. We're reminding you of our weather-related protocols and what they look like for your family. From here on out, our district will implement synchronous learning (live teaching via Google Meet).

To be prepared for inclement weather, IPADS are sent home with all students every night.

The iPads should only be used for school purposes and remain in the student’s backpack, safely stored away, when not in use for e-learning purposes. This will ensure the iPad does not get damaged and remains fully charged. The iPad should come to school each day with your student (fully charged).

The SVCS Elementary Student Handbook states that if changes are needed during the school day, the parent/guardian must notify the office by 1:30 PM. Please call or email changes for the end of the day to madams@svcs.k12.in.us by 1:30 PM!

After 1:30, we cannot guarantee that a student will receive any changes.

PLEASE LIMIT CHANGES TO EMERGENCIES ONLY! Frequent changes are confusing for students and staff, and can lead to mistakes.
