October is here! We have lots going on this month! From picture day to Fall Break to Trunk or Treat to another two-hour delay, please check the list of dates to be sure you know what is happening and when. Happy Fall, everyone!

If your child is absent, please call the school at 765-832-7761 and press 1 to leave a voicemail stating why your child is out.

Our new sign-in/out kiosk is up and running on our SRO's desk.

PLEASE BE SURE TO BRING YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE (or state-issued ID) WHEN YOU COME TO VISIT OR SIGN A STUDENT IN OR OUT.

You'll only need it the first time you use the sign-in kiosk at any SV school. After that, it will recognize you (at any of our schools) when it takes your photo. If you've already signed in on one of the kiosks at SVMS, SVHS, or Central, you should not need your ID. We appreciate your cooperation.

These students were honored for being cooperative.

The character trait for October is Responsibility (taking action and understanding the impact of our choices). Teachers will choose one student from each grade who shows the most responsibility. Those students will be recognized on Friday, October 31st in Ms. VanLannen's room from 7:30 to 8:00 AM.

School pictures will be taken on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Every child in the school will be photographed that day for the yearbook. Order forms were sent home on September 30th. Please have your child bring the order envelope that day to hand directly to the photographer. If your student is absent, a retake day will be held on November 19th.

Fall Break is the week of Monday, October 13, through Friday, October 17th. We will not have school that week. Please take this week to relax and recharge! Enjoy and be safe!

The Van Duyn PTO, along with the Van Duyn staff, will host our annual Trunk-or-Treat on Friday, October 24th, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM in our large staff parking lot. Come dressed in costume and join the fun!

The classroom parties will be held on Friday, October 31st at 1:45 (Kindergarten will be a little earlier due to their specials schedule). Room parents should be in contact for donations.

The SVCS Elementary Student Handbook states that if changes are needed during the school day, the parent/guardian must notify the office by 1:30 PM. Please call or email changes for the end of the day to madams@svcs.k12.in.us by 1:30 PM!

After 1:30, we cannot guarantee that a student will receive any changes.

PLEASE LIMIT CHANGES TO EMERGENCIES ONLY! Frequent changes are confusing for students and staff, and can lead to mistakes.

When sending money to school to pay for something, please put it in an envelope or Ziploc bag with your child's name on it and include what you're paying for.

Just a reminder, an after-school detention will be assigned after every 5 tardies.

Attendance letters will be sent when a student accumulates 5, 8, and 10 absences. These letters will be sent regardless of whether they are excused or unexcused absences.

Please have your child at school and on time every day. If your child will be absent, please call the school and leave a voicemail on the attendance line by 9:00 AM.

As always, if your child has a fever of 100 or greater, has been vomiting or has diarrhea, he or she must NOT have any of these symptoms for 24 hours or more before returning to school.

Starting in September 2025, menus and newsletters will be sent only through ParentSquare and will be available online. We will no longer send home printed copies.
